The Singapore Botanic Gardens (SBG) Children’s Festival takes places over two weeks and three weekends in November 2017. From Saturday, 11 November, to Sunday, 26 November, numerous activities will take place at Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden and the Eco-Garden.
To help you sort through the plethora of things that children can do at the SBG Children’s Festival, here is a quick rundown of the 20 different types of programmes taking place. Unless stated, the programmes are suitable for all ages. The programmes at the Botanic Garden’s Children’s Festival are on a first-come-first-served basis and registration may be required for some of the programmes.

1. Craft with Us (Hands-on activity)
Give kids an outlet for their creativity through plant-related crafts at SBG Children’s Festival 2017.

2. Culinary Art and Treats (Demonstration & Hands-on session)
Head over the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden kitchen to learn how to make snacks and dress them up into food art while learning about healthy eating. The demonstration sessions are suitable for all ages while the hands-on sessions are suitable for ages five to 14.

3. Fragrant Plants – Excite Your Senses (Hands-on activity)
Have an plant encounter through the nose at Fragrant Plants – Excite Your Senses. Make a ‘fragrant’ plant craft in this activity organised together with Givaudan Singapore.

4. CBeebies at Singapore Botanic Gardens
CBeebies will be at the Visitor Services @ Bukit Timah Gate from 25 to 26 November. Go Jetters, Ubercorn and Hey Duggee will be conducting activities for little learners. Dance along to music and get busy with art and crafts too!

5. Nature Play (Hands-on activity)
Get creative with art activities with leaves, flowers and stones. It is exploratory play through nature at this hands-on activity.

6. Pop-Up Library in the Gardens
Books and nature – what a pairing! Browse and borrow titles on nature, wildlife and environment at the Singapore Botanic Gardens Children’s Festival.

7. Design Fiction: Future of Technology and Nature by NUS
Engage with interactive exhibits that envisage how people and nature will existing together in the future. View artworks that depict future worlds that are intended to encourage visitors to discuss current issues.

8. Drinks and Desserts (Demonstration)
Learn about the plants are associated with different drinks and desserts, including the parts of the plants that provide special flavours, colours and smells.

9. Nature Rambling (Guided Tour)
Children from 10 to 14 can go on a guided tour and explore the various trails and habitats in the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden. Participants are required to wear covered shoes for Nature Rambling and encouraged to bring water bottles.

10. Ready, Set, Grow! (Hands-on activity)
Learn what our food comes from and how to reduce our environmental impact in a hands-on activity. Head over to Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden farm and learn how to grow your own food.

11. The Little Things (Demonstration)
Children between nine and 14 can turn detective and investigate plants and their parts that help them to protect themselves, stay dry and even float.

Storytelling and Performances
12. Grow With Nature (Drama and Storytelling)
This drama and storytelling session tells tales of nature – what happens as leaves and flowers fall from a tree, or why are river stones laid out the way they are?

Join Speedy the Squirrel, Sunny the Swan and Lizzie the Monitor Lizard in an interactive performance. They live in a magical garden and discover that they have trampled on the flowers. Join them to find out what they do next.

14. Interactive Performance: A Lovely Surprise
It is Nora’s seventh birthday but she is sad as there is no one to celebrate it with her. Help her animal friends to do something special for Nora and plan a party for her.

15. Meet and Greet the Characters

16. Reading with Nature (Storytelling)
Junior Reading Ambassadors and Librarians from the National Library Board will be leading entertaining storytelling session during the SBG Children’s Festival.

17. Storytelling @ Eco: Forever Friends
Three best friends lived in lush garden until something changed. Join Speedy the Squirrel, Sunny the Swan and Lizzie the Monitor Lizard as they look for ways to bring back their old friend Rain to the garden.

Movie Screenings at Singapore Botanic Gardens Children’s Festival
18. Movie Screening: Friends Forever – A Pig’s Tale
Three best friends, Johnny Mouse, Charlie Rooster and Percy the Pig, seek to save their farm through a series of exhilarating adventures! In this animated feature, their beloved farm, Mollywoop, is under threat and it is left to the three friends to save the day. This programme is held in conjunction with the German Film Festival 2017 and jointly organised by Singapore Botanic Gardens and Goethe Institute Singapore.

19. Movie Screening: Snowtime!
Kids in a small village decide to stage a snowball fight. It is all fun until it leads to a serious conflict between opposing slides and tragedy strikes. This screening is held in conjunction with Canada 150 and jointly organised by Singapore Botanic Gardens and the High Commission of Canada.

20. Movie Screening: The Lego Batman Movie
The Joker is out to takeover Gotham and it is up to Batman to stop him. He has to learn to work with others to save the day and stop The Joker.

21. Carnival @ Eco Garden
A Carnival @ Eco Garden will also be held on Saturdays, 11, 18, 25 November from 2 pm to 8.30 pm and on Sundays, 12, 19, 26 November from 2 pm to 7.30 pm.
