Bring your preschoolers outdoors for a time of exploration and learning, or cook up a storm at home with spice-inspired recipes, with Creative Conversations: The Scent of Spices, a new resource kit from Early Childhood Development Agency.
Launch on 13 July 2019, the Creative Conversations: The Scent of Spices resource kit includes a variety of activity ideas centred around the theme of local spices and is designed to encourage skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity and imagination. It also introduces children to elements of heritage and culture through the activities.
Creative Conversations: The Scent of Spices ECDA Resource Kit
The Creative Conversations: The Scent of Spices resource pack consists of four parts – a Booklet, a Recipe Book, Story & Activity Cards and an Exploration Map. It adopts a storytelling approach centred around a visit by Professor Alvis, an archaeologist, to National Museum of Singapore and Fort Canning Park.
Using the Story & Activity Cards, families can visit places such as the Goh Seng Choo gallery at National Museum of Singapore and Sang Nila Utama Gardens at Fort Canning Park to engage in various activities. These include matching games and searching out different types of flowers.
To round off the activities, kids can even send a postcard to Professor Alvis to share about their adventures with him.
Spice-inspired Recipes
The Early Childhood Development Agency’s resource kit also includes a Recipe Book with eight herb-and-spice-inspired recipes co-created by children between the ages of 2 to 6, their educators and their parents.
Recipes include beverages such as Sweet & Spicy Lemongrass Syrup and Aromatic Pandan Punch, and savoury dishes like Honey Mint Chick and Honey Braised Chicken with Cloves.
These provide a hands-on way for children to learn about local spices even while at home.
