Jurong Lake Gardens is celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival by decking up with lanterns and holding a variety of different activities with Lights by the Lake 2024. This event is one of the best places in the heartlands to view large-scale lanterns and light-ups, and will be lighting up Jurong Lake Gardens from 8 September to 22 September 2024.

Lights by the Lake 2024 presents a captivating gala of lights, music, and cultural delights.

The 15-day celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival Jurong Lake Gardens is being held in conjunction with the President’s Challenge 2024. It will also coincide with the 21st edition of NParks Concert Series in the Park: Rockestra which is themed ‘Moonlit Melodies’. There will be a talented line-up of local artistes will be performing a selection of popular Mandarin and English songs as part of NParks Concert Series in the Park: Rockestra.

Lantern displays at Jurong Lake Gardens

This year’s lantern displays at Jurong Lake Gardens incorporate showcases of the garden’s biodiversity. You can view the colours and shapes of the flora and fauna in lantern form.

In addition, you can also view replicas of the gardens’ iconic buildings – such as the pagoda at Chinese Gardens – incorporated into the lantern display.

Floating lanterns at Lights by the Lake

Lights by the Lake 2024 also sees the return of the popular floating lanterns. There will be new lantern designs inspired by origami, as well as mesmerising light and projection mapping shows.

In addition to the enchanting lantern displays, there will also be cultural showcases and music performances, as well as entertaining carnival games for some family-friendly fun. You can also catch a free movie screening while relishing in a delectable selection of carnival food!

Look forward to beautiful lantern displays that showcase the biodiversity and iconic buildings of Jurong Lake Gardens. The displays will feature lanterns meticulously crafted by expert lantern makers.

Reflections of Twilight

Reflections of Twilight

You can start off your walk at the Eco Pond, just behind Clusia Cove. Entitled Reflections of Twilight, this lantern display features a collection of animals, and it reflects beautifully off the surface of the lake.

Whispers of Nature & Birds of Wonderland

Whispers of Nature

Make your way over to Lakeside Field. Set around the open field are various lantern sets. This include Whispers of Nature, a tribute to the smaller creatures found at Jurong Lake Gardens.

Birds of Wonderland

Another is Birds of Wonderland with birds like kingfishers taking centrestage.

Nezha and the Dragon King

Nezha and the Dragon King

Nezha and the Dragon King is a large-scale and impressive display located just beside the Night Bazaar.

Legend of the White Snake

Legend of the White Snake

The Legend of the White Snake lantern set features scenes from the story and also incorporates a pagoda that looks very much like the Chinese Garden’s Cloud Pagoda.

Chang’e and her Moon Palace

Chang'e and her Moon Palace

The majestic Chang’e and her Moon Palace is the last large scale lantern set at Jurong Lake Garden’s Lakeside Field.

But there are more lanterns within the newly reopened Chinese Garden and Japanese Garden.

The White Rainbow Bridge has been transformed into the Dragon and Phoenix Bridge for the Lights by the Lake. As you enter the Chinese Garden Gate, you will come face to face with the lit up dragon. On the other end of the bridge, there is a phoenix lantern.

There is also a projection mapping on the Main Arch building at Chinese Garden. Known as Blessing of the Moon, it takes place from 7.45 pm to 9.45 pm daily, every 30 minutes.

More lanterns await at the Fiscus Lawn at Chinese Garden. These include a phoenix lantern along with a Lion Dance Lantern, Chinese Cultural Lantern and Chinese Orchestra Instruments Lantern.

Swallow Lantern

Our personal favourite lantern amongst the ones at Fiscus Lawn is the intricate looking Swallow Lantern.

Cloud Pagoda projection mapping

This is also a good spot to watch the light show at the Cloud Pagoda. Known as Mid-Autumn Symphony, it takes place from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm daily, every 30 minutes

Over at Japanese Garden, there are a couple more lanterns. Step into Japanese Garden from Lakeside Garden and you will be greened by the Flower Blossom lantern set. 

Origami Lantern

Around it are various origami inspired lanterns. 

Sunken Garden

Another spot to visit is the Sunken Garden which has been lighted up for the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Cultural Showcases and Music Performances

Enjoy traditional dances and contemporary musical expressions during Lights by the Lake 2024. Each showcase promises to be a celebration of artistry and cultural heritage that celebrates the universal language of music and the timeless traditions.

There will also be lion and dragon dance performances on 13 to 15, 17, 20 to 22 September 2024, 7.30 pm and 8.30 pm at the Grand Arch, Chinese Garden.

President’s Challenge 2024 Activity Booths

In support of the President’s Challenge, there are fun activity booths where visitors can contribute to the initiative by purchasing floating water lanterns, 3D-printed souvenirs inspired by the diverse wildlife found in Jurong Lake Gardens, and solar-powered tulips that light up with a gentle, ambient glow.

Mark your calendars for the 21st edition of Rockestra®! In line with the Mid-Autumn festivities, an incredible line-up of local artistes will perform ‘Moonlit Melodies’. This will feature a selection of Mandarin and English songs that range from classics to modern chart-toppers. Sing and dance along into the night. Want to get something to eat while you are out at Lights by the Lake? Head over to the Night Bazaar. This year, there is Smelly Tofu on sale and much more. You can also buy a lantern from the Night Bazaar too.

Uncle Ringo Carnival

You will also find a carnival going close to the Butterfly Field at Lakeside Garden. The Uncle Ringo Carnival has rides that include favourites like bumper cars and Dumbo.
