Scavenger Hunts are a great activity for kids to explore their surroundings and draw links to the patterns around them. This simple yet engaging Alphabet Scavenger Hunt can be used in both indoor and outdoor settings. There are many ways that you can use this activity sheet, here are two of our suggested ways.
Alphabet Scavenger Hunt: Assigned Words
Materials Needed:
- Printed copy of Little Day Out’s Alphabet Scavenger Hunt (Free downloadable here)
- Cut out papers of 26 items around the house from letters A to Z
- Double-sided tape or blue tack
- A Clipboard
How to play:
This version is best suited for indoor use. Choose a list of 26 items from A to Z that is around the area. Write or print out the items and label the different items accordingly. Using the printed copy of the activity sheet, the child can explore and look for each of the words on the chosen items. When the word is found, the child can match the words to the letters accordingly.
Alphabet Scavenger Hunt: I Spy
Materials Needed:
- Printed copy of Little Day Out’s Alphabet Scavenger Hunt (Free downloadable here)
- Pen or Pencil
- A Clipboard
How to play:
This version is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Kids can start by taking a printed activity sheet and find as many items around the area starting with the different letters of the alphabet. To make things interesting, parents can add fun timed challenges or set themes to the items that are to be found such as “things that move”, “things in the living room” or more.
