What are the Northern Lights?

The Northern Lights is a natural phenomena that normally can only be seen in northerly countries that ring the arctic circle.

The dancing ribbons of light occur when particles from the sun collide with gases found in the Earth’s atmosphere. These particles energise gases like oxygen and nitrogen to create swirls of colours like green, purple and blue in the sky.

Borealis Art Installation

The Borealis installation at Gardens by the Bay is creation of Geneva-based artist Dan Acher.

It makes use of smoke machines and lasers to create the mysterious Northern Lights come to life under the Supertrees at Supertree Grove.

Accompanying the Borealis show is a soundtrack by French composer Guillaume Desbois. Combined together, the lights and sound provide a mesmerising and even moving landscape in the already magical setting of the Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay.
