Most kids don’t think of doing chores as a fun activity. However, after a visit to Clean Up, or Else! at The Artground, where they get to slide down a toilet bowl and swing across dirty dishes, kids may see household chores in new light.
Clean Up, or Else!: Chores Meet Play at The Artground
Clean Up, or Else! is the latest art installation at The Artground. In case you think it is a diabolical plan by a parent to get kids involved in chores, it is not.
Instead, it comes from the creative minds of three sisters, Candace, 8, Claire, 10, and Colette, 12.

Collectively known as the CMinors, the trio came up with the idea for Clean Up, or Else! because they wanted to encourage children to think about who they are and the values they believe in.
Their idea was that “playing house” would encourage family conversations around the values of kindness, helpfulness and responsibility over personal and shared spaces at home.
This led the three sisters to dream up a space where kids could “train” to help out with chores at home and learn about shared responsibilities.
Of course, this was done with a playful twist that only a child could dream up on.
“I really wanted to slide down a giant toilet bowl,” said Claire.
For Candace, it was the chance to “swim backstroke in a giant kitchen sink.”
The three kids were encouraged on by mom Yi Lin.
“I am proud of the CMinors for sharing their ideas so generously in creating a new arts space for children. They thought of how to make the space enjoyable for children of different ages and abilities, how the parents could get involved, and how families could be encouraged to take care of The Artground and to keep the place clean and comfortable for everyone,” she said.
Learning through Play
Clean Up, or Else! at The Artground re-introduces kids to familiar places around the home, like the toilet, shower and laundry area, where they can have some whimsical fun and learn about playing a part at home at the same time.
The CMinors have even come up with an activity book with age-appropriate activities for preschool children who pay a visit to The Artground.
Clean Up, or Else! at The Artground runs till 25 February 2024. Admission to the arts space is free.
