Following the launch of Katong-Joo Chiat as a Heritage Activation Node (HAN), the Clementi Heritage Activation Node will be the second to be launched in 2024.

Embark on an enriching journey through Clementi’s history, participate in 28 programmes by 18 partners at HAN @ Clementi launch festival happening 13 to 15 September 2024. Youths take centre stage in the planning and executing of the HAN @ Clementi launch festival as well. 

Visitors are invited to celebrate at the pop-up heritage village, participate in community activities, go on a AR experience in the neighbourhood developed by Ngee Ann Polytechnic students and watch performances by Clementi residents and friends.

Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) is an anchor partner collaborating with the community and NHB to spread the knowledge of the rich heritage of Clementi.

Beyond the involvement of NP, NHB has also collaborated with Singapore Polytechnic and the Singapore University of Social Sciences, schools, heritage businesses, and community partners in the neighbourhood to provide a diverse range of heritage experiences, including installations, guided tours and talks in Clementi. As HAN@Clementi is a multiyear initiative, NHB and NP will continue to work with their partners to offer regular heritage programmes in Clementi for Singaporeans to enjoy even after the launch weekend.


New Mural at Clementi MRT

To commemorate the launch of HAN@Clementi, look out for a mural designed by Ashley Goh, a Year Three student at NP, at Clementi MRT Station.

Titled Echoes of Clementi, this mural celebrates Clementi’s multicultural blend of communities while showcasing the area’s transformation from a humble kampung into the bustling town it is today.

My Community Heritage Tour Clementi

Go on a fascinating trek with My Community volunteers around Clementi. Learn about the development of the town from business that have grown together with the neighbourhood and the communities around. Taste the popular dishes known to the area and visit an aquarium avenue where shops open 24-7. Explore sites that tell stories about Clementi’s industrial and military pasts. Participation is free.

Did you know that the oldest road in Clementi called Clementi Road was called Reformatory Road up until October 1947? There was a reformatory school for juvenile delinquents and once Charlie Chaplin visited the boys! Reformatory Road was also one of the defense lines for the Malay Regiment in the battle for Pasir Panjang. There are so many interesting things to discover about Clementi.

JourneyX

Use your device to learn more about the Clementi neighbourhood.

JourneyX is an interactive community trail interweaved with stories of the community, places and heritage. It was designed by NP students and offers an Augmented Reality experience. 

Redeem rewards when you check-in at various location pins. Collecting five info pins grant you stickers; collecting five info pins and five landmark pins means earning a cute collectible keychain which is also the mascot of HAN. The top tier involves collecting all 15 pins. This will earn you a iTea $3 voucher!

Redemption of rewards is available only during 13 to 15 September. 

If you prefer a guided digital tour, join the JourneyX Curators’ Sharing. The tours are available in both English and Mandarin. English tours will happen on 13 September at 11 am and 14 and 15 September at 11 am and 2 pm. Tours in Mandarin will be conducted at 2 pm on 13 September and 4 pm on 14 and 15 September.

Fun With Heritage: Children’s Drama Workshop

How about getting the kids involved in drama, storytelling and heritage appreciation? This workshop led by students of Singapore Polytechnic Media, Arts & Design School will get little ones stepping into the world of heritage exploration. Participation is free.

There are two storylines for the two kinds of drama workshop. One will be on the enchanting world of Wayang Kulit while the other will be about how Singapore River was closely intertwined with Singapore’s history.

When: Wayang Kulit on 14 September 11 am and 4 pm, Singapore River on 15 September 11 am and 4 pm

Rollin’ through West Coast Park

West Coast Park

A tour on skates? Yes, tour West Coast Park on inline skates and go on a skate-through heritage trail at West Coast Park. All noobs are welcome! Work in teams and take on quests to uncover hidden stories in this fun tour. Each spot costs $10.

For families with children under 13, there is a compulsory inline skating workshop that will be held on 7 September 9.30 am to 11.30 am while the heritage trail will be conducted on 14 September at 9.30 am.

Exploring Clementi With Play

From 13 to 15 September, join the SUSS Cross-Cultural Immersion Interest Group at a traditional games booth. The booth is open from 11 am to  pm, and participants can explore different traditional games.

Tales of Clementi: Storytelling for Kids

Listen to stories on Clementi’s heritage. In conjunction with the National Library Board’s LOLA 2024 celebrations, the 30-minute storytelling session will be about Sir Cecil Clementi Smith, whom Clementi is named after, as well as iconic landmarks around Clementi.

Community Performances at ‘Our Clementi Home’ Heritage Village

Be enthralled by captivating dance and music performances, showcasing the talents of communities in Clementi. From enchanting choral renditions by Clementi Primary School Choir to fusion dances by the Indian Instrumental Ensemble and Ilsa Tari, the performances showcase the talents of communities in Clementi.

Clementi Creations: Craft Your Clementi Home

This craft activity is perfect for children to express their creativity by designing their Clementi home. Each child will be given a craft kit to complete onsite.

Pipeo’s Clementi Adventures: An Interactive Journey

Play a game to help Pipeo and his friends find their way home! This two-player interactive is played with movable character tokens and players have to spin the wheel and land on special tiles to complete the game.

Pipeo the pigeon and his feathered friends have been transported back in time to Old Clementi. Hannie, the local sparrow is here to help them find their way home in this exciting time-travel adventure game.

Sights and Secrets of Clementi: Photowalk $5

Go on a photowalk to soak in the sights and secrets of Clementi. Tickets cost $5 each and participants below 12 must be accompanied by parents and guardians. All attendees must have their tickets.
