Stepping into Das Erzgebirge-Haus at ION Orchard feels like stepping through a portal into a quaint folk art shop in Germany. All around are handcrafted wooden collectibles and miniatures, the type that you’d expect to find at a German Christmas market stall.

Das Erzgebirge-Haus brings in crafts from the Erzgebirge region of Germany, which sits right on the border with the Czech Republic. Known in English as the Ore Mountains, the region is a low mountain range where, unsurprisingly, mining is its main economic activity.
The Erzgebirge region also has plenty of castles and churches, and is also known for its folk art and handicrafts.

And some of these traditional crafts can be found at Das Erzgebirge-Haus in Singapore. There Christmas ornaments, toys, miniature figurines and cuckoo clocks. It is almost like a toymaker’s workshop, and there is much for the eyes to take in.
Nutcrackers and Other Christmas Ornaments in Singapore
The presence of wooden nutcrackers, in various designs, brings an overwhelming sense of Christmas to the shop. While these are mainly decorative, not so much for actually cracking nuts, it is hard not to look at them and think of the Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite.
We also love that the display décor within Das Erzgebirge-Haus is made to look like a traditional half-timbered house.
The beautifully crafted figurines and houses sit pretty on display. The level of detail on the items are amazing. They are the type of gift that you would get for a special occasion. Or when you want to spruce up the Christmas decorations.
Just be aware that many of the items within the store are fragile. This means that you should be extra careful when browsing and keep a watchful eye on the kids.

In keeping with the wooden nature of the items within the store, Das Erzgebirge-Haus also sells some beautifully crafted wooden chess sets.
These come in a variety of styles – from traditional looking pieces to more dramatic, themed ones.
