In celebration of Deepavali 2024, Serangoon Road in Little India has been lit up, providing a festive atmosphere to the historic precinct ahead during the period of 14 September to 17 November 2024.

The Deepavali public holiday in Singapore falls on 31 October this year.

The annual Deepavali Street Light Up at Little India starts in front of Tekka Centre with a brightly coloured archway and runs down Serangoon Road. This year, the decorations have incorporated the use of LEDs.

The theme of the 2024 Deepavali light up is centred around family unity. This is reflected on an installation at the main arch.

In addition to the annual Deepavali light up, there are multiple events being held in celebration of Deepavali.

Each year, the Indian Heritage Centre holds a Deepavali Open House where you can experience traditional food, fashion, and activities that showcase Indian culture.

This year, the Deepavali Open House returns with an exciting carnival theme! Celebrate with four weekends of LIVE entertainment, rich cultural experiences, and free events to usher in the festival of lights! Look out for more details to be announced.


Deepavali Festival Village

Deepavali Festival Village

Deepavali would not be the same without a visit to the Festival Village along Campbell Lane. This shopping area comes to life with street merchants selling traditional clothing, handicrafts, snacks and festive decorations. It is right next to the Indian Heritage Centre.

This year, the Deepavali Festival Village will be held from 14 September till 30 October 2024 along Campbell Lane.


Deepavali Treasure Hunt

On 28 September and 12 October 2024, join in a treasure hunt to discover more about Little India’s hidden cultural gems.

Learn aboout Indian tradition as well as the Deepavali during a competitive style treasure hunt. There will be eight stations spread across the vicinity of Little India. The event would flag-off from Campbell Lane. Participants will be given a map with the first clue and instructions. They must solve the first clue which will lead them to their respective next station, where they will be handed another clue and some critical information about Indian culture and Deepavali. Solving that clue will lead them to their next station. Participants will be required to perform a certain task before the clue is handed over to them.

The fastest three pairs would win shopping vouchers worth $150, $100 and $50
respectively. This programme is open to all and there is a fee of $10 per pair. Booking is required. Get more details about the Treasure Hunt.


Deepavali Big Bus Tour

Soak in the festive atmosphere in Little India during a special Big Bus tours for Deepavali. It will take you through the sights of Little India.

The Deepavali Big Bus Tour takes place on 4, 11, 18, 21 to 25 October. It will wrap up at Race Course Road, just outside Gayathri Restaurant. To add to your experience, each participant will receive a $5 voucher from the Gayathri restaurant! Registration is required. Get more details about the Deepavali Big Bus Tour. Parade of Tekka Raja Mascot

On 5, 12 and 19 October, tbhe cute Mascot “Tekka Raja” will be walking down the streets and interacting with people, especially children. First revealed to the public last year, Tekka Raja has been popular especially with young ones. Look out for him to take a photo and he will be giving out special Deepavali Money Packets too. 


Deepavali Workshop

This workshop offers a hands-on experience in various aspects of the festival, including crafting traditional decorations, preparing festive treats, and learning about the significance of Deepavali rituals. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in activities such as making diyas (oil lamps), creating rangoli (decorative patterns), and preparing classic sweets. Experienced instructors will guide attendees through each activity, sharing valuable insights and techniques that bring the festival’s rich cultural heritage to life.

The Deepavali workshop will be held on 26 October 2024, 10 am to 12 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm at the Tekka Place Rooftop.
