Now, onto the durian buffet at Goodwood Park Hotel’s Coffee Lounge! Featuring only premium D24 durians, the spread includes beloved classics like profiteroles and freshly made pancakes, alongside bold creations such as the Sourdough Pizza, which I found to be a surprising yet interesting blend of sweet and savoury flavours.
Another intriguing pairing was the Blueberry Dream, where the rich durian perfectly complemented the fruity notes of the blueberry without overpowering them.
The highlight of the buffet spread was the Torched Marshmallow Durian Ice Cream.
The contrast in temperatures and textures, combined with the sweetness of the durian and a hint of smokiness, created a delightful sensation on the palate.
Executive Chef Derrick Ang revealed that this dish was inspired by a trip to Korea, where he saw sweets like brownies and cookies encased in marshmallows. He brought the idea back to Chef Jessica, who adapted it to fit the durian theme and refined it through multiple rounds of R&D to create the version now being served.
The Goodwood Park Hotel team also curated a tasting platter featuring the Blossoming Trio (Coffee, Pandan, Chocolate Brownie), Spikey Duo, Lychee Lime Sensation, and Ice Cream Ring of Joy.
Each item was meticulously crafted, with Chef Derrick ensuring that every dish was as visually appealing as it was delicious.
The Spikey Duo, shaped like a tiny durian, would undoubtedly be a hit among children, thanks to its playful design and sweet, creamy durian filling. While Chef Derrick recommended the Lychee Lime Sensation, my personal favorite was the Pandan Blossoming Trio, which had a milder durian taste to complement the delicate pandan flavour.
Goodwood Park Hotel’s Durian Fiesta remains a treat for durian lovers. With a mix of classic favourites and creative new treats, it is a celebration that promises something delicious for everyone.
