Can you differentiate between “Kopi O Siew Dai” and “Kopi Si”? If you’re a noob at ordering drinks at the coffee shop or hawker centre, this game is perfect for you!
Kopi King is all about training the “Kopi Soh” or “Kopi Dai Loh” in you. It is a game by Origame, a local games creator, which has cleverly made games surrounding familiar themes in the local context.
How to Play Kopi King
The goal is simple – complete making five drinks as fast as possible to end the game. This is a quick and easy game ideal for families to try, and learning the game takes seconds.

There are two decks of cards – one for ingredients and one for the drinks and its accompanying formula.
Ingredient cards include coffee, tea, sugar, carnation milk, creamer, milo, bandung and ice.
Both decks should be shuffled.
Place the deck with ingredients face down and “shuffle them” mahjong style.
Each player is then dealt two drink cards.
The game starts when everyone yells “Kopi King” in unison, finds their ingredient from the ingredient pile. Once the two drinks are complete, players will need to get more drink cards until they finish all five drinks. The first player to complete five drinks will yell “close shop”, and everyone counts their earnings.
For each missing ingredient, the amount of 50 cents must be deducted from the price of the drink.

Our Verdict of Kopi King
We love the game for its simplicity and that it can include children as young as five to participate.
It is also a great game to play during Chinese New Year visitations or family gatherings since it is quick to learn and one round takes minutes to complete.
There are additional rules for takeaway drinks we did not implement to keep things simple. The children enjoyed the game and it was a good test of dexterity and focus.
If you want to encourage the skill of multi-tasking and better hand-eye coordination, Kopi King is the game for your family!
In addition, it teaches noobs like myself the difference between drinks you can order at the Kopitiam! The names of the drinks based on the actual terms used are very innovative, perhaps a chance to pick up some dialect as well!
