Those living in nearby estates may be able to view the fireworks from their homes, without having to leave home.
The fireworks display will last for about five minutes.
Watching the Fireworks
The fireworks will be launched up to heights of about 220 metres or 62 storeys high, making them visible from far away, assuming you are facing the right direction and have line of sight of course.
For example, it was reported that the fireworks from Jurong Lake Gardens would be visible from as far away as Clementi.
Singaporeans are encouraged to stay at home to enjoy the fireworks display or watch them on the live broadcasts.
Location Closures for Public Safety
Take note that some of the fireworks locations will be closed for public safety and to avoid a crowd of people gathering.
For example, Lakeside Garden at Jurong Lake Gardens, including the North and South Carparks will be closed from 11 am to 9 pm.
The waterfront areas around the Marina Bay, including Jubilee Bridge, Bayfront Event Space and Merlion Park will be closed from 5 pm to 9 pm.
Marina Barrage, Bay East Gardens, Youth Olympic Park and the promenades along Gardens by the Bay and Singapore Flyer will be closed from 4 pm to 9 pm.
Red Lions in the Heartlands
In addition, it was unveiled that the Red Lions parachute teams would be landing at two heartland locations, weather permitting, at around 9 am in the morning of 9 August 2020.
The two Red Lions locations are the open field along Toh Guan Road, near to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and the open field along Sengkang East Road, near Sengkang General Hospital
Staying Safe on National Day 2020
To stay safe on National Day 2020, the public is reminded to observe safe distancing measures such as face masks, not venturing out in groups of more than 5 and keep a safe distance from others.
Safe distancing ambassadors and enforcement officers will be on hand to keep the public safe.
In an advisory, the NDP 2020 Organising Committee even said, “Members of the public who are participating in the Anthem and Pledge Moments in public spaces are encouraged to sing and recite along in their hearts, instead of out loud, to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19.”
It is a timely reminder of the risks of COVID-19 and that this year’s National Day activities are being organised so that we can all stay at home to safely enjoy the celebrations.
