Hock Soon Carrot Cake at Ghim Moh Market is one of two carrot cake or chai tow kway stalls that you can find at the food centre.

Between the two stalls selling carrot cake, Hock Soon Carrot Cake normally has the shorter queue. However, what does it actually taste like?

Most of the time, we would patronise the other Ghim Moh carrot cake stall. However, since we were there on a Monday and the other stall was closed, we proceeded to order from Hock Soon Carrot Cake.

Frying up Carrot Cake

Frying up Carrot Cake

To be upfront, we have tried it before and previously we found it a bit bland. However, we decided it give it another shot and order a plate of white carrot cake with chilli.

Service was quick as there was no one else in the queue and the stall keeper proceeded to fry up a plate for us.

Carrot cake from Hock Soon Carrot Cake

The carrot cake from Hock Soon Carrot Cake comes in decently sized chunks that are still soft in the middle with some cai po (preserved radish) to add a bit of crunch.

Egg in the Carrot Cake

There was a generous amount of egg for the amount of carrot cake that we ordered – so much so that some parts of the dish felt like carrot cake omelette.

A generous topping of green spring onions adds a dash of freshness to the plate of carrot cake.

We enjoyed the chilli with the carrot cake too.

Hock Soon Carrot Cake Review

Overall, it was a nice plate of chai tow kway. It was definitely much better than what we remembered of the last time we tried it. Perhaps it was also down to the person who was frying it. This time around, it was a young lady where as previously it was an older man.

In addition to chye tow kway, Hock Soon Carrot Cake also sells satay and rojak. We will probably need to try those another time.

On Google, Hock Soon Carrot Cake has a 4.6 star rating based on 47 reviews.
