The Kampung-style Iftar Buffet returns this Ramadan to Four Points by Sheraton Singapore and it promises to be perfect for breaking fast with family and friends. With a spread meant to pay homage to traditional village flavours with a variety of sides and starters, we were excited to give it a try!
Getting to Four Points by Sheraton Singapore, Riverview
Located by the Singapore River, with a bus stop right outside, the Havelock MRT station nearby, and on-site (though limited) parking, Four Points by Sheraton Singapore, Riverview is a convenient meeting place for dinner. We headed to the ballroom where the buffet was and were greeted by the vibrant array of food and aromas that caused us to salivate! The table settings were elegant, with various arrangements available for different group sizes.

I headed straight for the starters section, filling my plate with crackers, homemade Acar, Gado Gado and Satay. The Gado Gado was definitely a crowd favourite and it was nice to be able to choose exactly what you want and drown it in as much Satay sauce as you want! The charcoal-grilled chicken and beef Satay had sufficient char and a good smoky flavour that we were surprised to get in a buffet.
Live Stations
With those cravings satisfied, I moved on to the live stations that included the Signature Laksa as well as Soto Ayam and Bubur Lambuk. The Laksa was as good as any I have had at a buffet, and the Soto Ayam had a depth of flavour from its long cooking process. Both were very enjoyable!
I was unfamiliar with Bubur Lambuk, despite it being a beloved traditional Malay dish. It was tasty and it was interesting how different cultures all over the world appreciate a nice hot bowl of porridge. It was interesting to learn the origins of this recipe and that it has now become a staple during the holy month of Ramadan. It was garnished with fried onions and parsley, half a salted egg on the side and was really heart warming.
Mains at Sheraton’s Iftar Buffet
The mains were varied enough to let everyone choose what appealed to them and each dish was a good rendition of classic favourites. The Mutton Rendang, Sambal Eggplant and Chilli Flower Crabs were the standouts and required the most frequent top-ups by the service staff.
Dry Mee Siam can often turn out too dry and lacking in taste, but this was moist and flavourful, and could be had on its own. The fried rice was decent but I went mostly for white rice to go with the other dishes.
The Ayam Lemak Chilli Padi was true to its name, lemak and the spiciness with the Chilli Padi was at a significant level. I couldn’t stop eating it, shovelling spoonful after spoonful of it into my mouth with the rice and sips of iced Bandung in between.
The Mutton Rendang was a rich, slow-cooked curry with chunks tender mutton with a spiciness that was just right.
If you love a good fish curry, the Ikan Masak Asam Pedas would be right up your alley! Tender, delicately-cooked fillets of fish cooked in a sour and spicy stew, the flavours excite the taste buds and got us ready for more food!
When you hear “Sambal Eggplant”, you might think it is just a filler and obligatory vegetable dish, but it definitely held its own! The texture of eggplant could be said to be an acquired taste. When properly cooked, eggplants are soft, tender and almost creamy in texture and I loved it. The eggplant was just right and coated with a good amount of the sambal it was fried in. Lovely!
Seafood – Black Pepper Prawns and Chilli Flower Crab
We share the same love for seafood as many other Singaporeans and we approached the Black Pepper Prawns and the Chilli Flower Crab with much interest. The prawns were fairly big and cooked well in a slightly spicy black pepper sauce. It was worth getting our hands dirty peeling the prawns, especially knowing we needed to use our hands for the next dish too – Chilli Flower Crab!
Flower crabs are not the biggest and have a little less meat but the meat is sweeter. The chilli crab sauce was thick, glossy brown, packed with flavour and it generously coated the crab pieces. It was simply delightful.
Accompanied by cups of iced Bandung and iced Milo, we definitely ate more than we should have!
Ending the Meal on a Sweet Note: Desserts
The desserts section featured Nonya Kuehs, fruits, Ice Jelly Cocktail and a self-service Chendol station, but the Durian Pengat was what kept everyone going back for second helpings. It was rich, creamy and yet not too sweet. If you need something to tide you over till the main durian season, this definitely hits the spot.
The Kampung-style Iftar Buffet at Four Points by Sheraton Singapore, Riverview is definitely worth a visit. It’s a good effort consolidating the classic dishes into this Iftar buffet. You get a very decent variety of food in a very comfortable setting, accommodating bigger groups of people breaking fast together.
It is good value at $58 nett for adults and $29 nett for children aged 6 to 11 years old, but it gets better!
