Instagram Reels is launching in Singapore for all users today, 27 October 2021, allowing users to create up to 60-second short-form videos with advanced video editing tools.
Instagram Reels available in Singapore from 27 October 2021
Originally launched in August 2020, Instagram Reels allows users to express themselves in more creative ways. The new tools that Singapore Instagram users will find available on Instagram Reels include a timer, countdown, audio and align tools to stitch together different video clips.
Instagram Reels provides an experience that is similar to that of its rival app, TikTok.
Instagram Reels can be accessed through the Instagram camera and users will be able to watch and interact with Reels in a new Explore space on the app.
Users will be able to share reels with followers on the Feed or with the wider Instagram community if they have a Public Account.
“We are continuously listening to and taking inspiration from what our community wants. They’re telling us that in addition to all the ways to share video, they want the opportunity to make and watch short-form, edited videos that entertain, and be a creator on a global stage with a bigger and diverse audience. We see Reels as a core part of the future of entertainment on Instagram; and today, we are excited to give people in Singapore new ways to express their authentic selves through Reels”, said Erin Pettigrew, Product Manager at Reels.
Other Updates to Instagram
In addition, together with the launch of Instagram Reels in Singapore, users in Singapore will also get access to a range of new updates that were announced last week.
These include Collabs, Superbeat, Dynamic/3D Lyrics and Feed Creation on IG Desktop Web.
Collabs is a way to invite another account to collaborate on a post or a reel.
Superbeat applies special effects to the beat of a user’s song while Dynamic/3D Lyrics display onscreen song lyrics.
Feed Creation on IG Desktop Web allows users to post photos and videos directly to Instagram from the desktop.
In addition, Facebook, the owner of Instagram, also launched a suite of music features for Facebook and Instagram users in Singapore last month. These include Music Stickers and Music in Profiles on Facebook.
If you are checking out the new Instagram Reels feature, the official hashtag is #ReelsSG.
