This March, the Heritage Hunter returns with an even more immersive experience and attractive prizes to be won. Since the success of its run in 2021, the hunt takes place at Kampong Gelam this March, starting 12 March 2022. Participants will get to complete a series of “phygital” tasks with the National Heritage Board’s (NHB) Virtual Kampong Gelam x Heritage Hunter Bingo.
How to join the Heritage Hunter Bingo
During the hunt, participants will take to the physical streets of Kampong Gelam to search for a series of interactive points scattered around significant and interesting sites in order to complete a “bingo” style grid.

Using their smartphones, participants will be tasked to scan objects and architectural features using real-time image recognition, which will allow them to interact with historical characters in augmented reality, enjoy storytelling videos, and discover lesser-known nuggets of information about the precinct.
For an even more personalised experience, users can create their own avatars, fashioned out of the Malay Heritage Centre’s resident cats!
Explore the “digital twin” of Kampong Gelam
As Kampong Gelam is a precinct with many significant heritage sites, the Heritage Hunter Bingo will leverage on the “Virtual Kampong Gelam”, National Heritage Board’s very first “digital twin” of a heritage precinct that participants can use to plan their routes and strategise their hunts. They can also discover fun facts and play mini-games.
The Virtual Kampong Gelam also includes a full digital recreation of the Malay Heritage Centre’s Cerita exhibition, which enables users to interact with the artefacts on display.
Claim rewards and prizes for Virtual Kampong Gelam x Heritage Hunter Bingo
Participants in Virtual Kampong Gelam x Heritage Hunter Bingo will be able to claim rewards for each activity completed, and accumulate chances to win the Ultimate Treasure Chest, which features prizes like a 2 day and 1 night staycation at a heritage hotel, a heritage experience workshop, a tablet worth $1,999, and $300 worth of shopping vouchers. The rewards are redeemable at the Malay Heritage Centre.
The National Heritage Boards is encouraging participants to embark on their hunt from Tuesdays to Sundays as physical components of the game and prize redemption are dependent on the opening hours of participating locations and businesses, including the Malay Heritage Centre, which is closed on Mondays.
From our test run of the Heritage Hunter Bingo, it is also worth noting that the platform seems to carry best on Google Chrome and users will also have to enable their privacy and location settings to experience the game. For more information, visit the site here.
