Flowers that will never wilt? LEGO’s got your back and right in time to herald the new year. The LEGO Botanicals series are a cheery addition to any space, and best of all the florals do not wilt, can be rearranged any time and can be assembled by kids! (Yes my kids tried!)

The LEGO Botanicals 10342 Pretty Pink Flower Bouquet is made up of 749 pieces, consisting of blooms like Cornflower, Elder, Canterbury Bells, Persian Buttercup, roses, daisies, Waterlily Dahlia, and Boat Orchid. There are 15 flower stems to work on in total.

The complexity increases and working on it has gradual difficulty which might be suitable for the older folks who have never played with LEGO. It also trains one’s dexterity and eyesight – hence this is an appropriate mental workout too.

I think it is very suitable as a gift, perhaps paired with a magnifying glass since some pieces were too tiny to decipher given my aging eyes. Since I had to rely on my sons to help me search for the right pieces, it’s a great way to complete the set as a family! Sidenote to LEGO, please print the manual in larger formats especially those tricky connector bits!

The manual instructions start with the flowers, then stems and leaves and each stalk is completed at each phase. This process is then replicated for each different type of flower.

I marvel at the clever designs of how LEGO pieces form the long stalks, adjustable petals and pay attention to the tiniest details of the intricacies of the flower designs. The LEGO Botanicals sets can even be used to impart Science knowledge through learning about various flower parts.

Although the set is recommended for adults, I think my sons who gleefully built the flowers could finish the stalks quite easily. We took turns and finished it within 1.5 hours. They deftly adjusted my stalks and even scrutinised my build, claiming I did mine wrongly. Since they were the LEGO experts, I must say any LEGO fanatics can complete this set with ease.

As someone who usually doesn’t play with nor build LEGO, making flowers with LEGO might be a game-changer.

I never knew LEGO pieces were so versatile, from getting the curves of stems and leaves realistically shaped and angled to adjustable flower petals and realistically shaped flower parts. My favourites are the Waterlily Dahlia and the Canterbury Bells.

After finishing the set, arranging the florals is a fun way to express creativity. Even my ten year old rearranges it everytime he walks by it. Perhaps I was nurturing a budding florist? There are endless ways to rearrange the bouquet without risking breakage or damage to the flowers.  As someone allergic to pollen, this was a bouquet that can last for a long time and easy to use as an accessory. Perhaps I can buy myself more flowers – the LEGO kind.

I love the flower facts shared in the LEGO building manual as well and I definitely learnt something about each kind of flower, their place of origin and unique facts. Paying attention to the little details made me appreciate flowers more.

The LEGO Botanicals 10342 Pretty Pink Flower Bouquet can also be combined with other LEGO bouquet sets for bigger displays.
