Bags 1 to 3 contain parts for the fire truck and drone, while bags 4 to 8 contain parts for the fire station. My LEGO-loving 5.5 year old was able to complete the build independently in about 3 to 4 hours over the course of a few quiet rainy afternoons.

Building the Fire Truck

Building the Fire Truck

We started off with the fire truck, which was a fairly straightforward build that came together quickly. Probably the most challenging part was inserting the wheels into the tyres, where some adult assistance was required.

Completed Fire Truck

We really appreciated how the colour scheme just makes everything pop. Of course, red is the predominant colour seen in this design, but the yellow and blue accents bring a burst of colour and add to the vibrancy of the design.

There are also poles on each side of the cab portion which the firefighters can hang onto while riding on the truck, and cabinets (with functional doors!) where they can store their gear.

Completed Fire Truck with ladder

The truck bed has a modular design, where two different attachments can be placed – a ladder with a cherry-picker box at the end, or a water cannon.

Moving on to the fire station, this was the more substantial portion of the set and took slightly longer to assemble.

An ingenious fold-up mechanism makes the garage doors fully functional, allowing users to slide the doors up smoothly every time an engine departs or returns to the station.

And instead of merely relying on stickers for the door numbers, the door numbers are built entirely of creatively-selected white LEGO pieces, giving it a tiled, 3-D effect.

The upper level of the station contains the crew’s living quarters, complete with a bed and pantry area (including the all-important coffee machine for all those night shifts!). There are also a couple of computer screens which utilise stickers for their display.

No fire station is complete without a pole, and this LEGO set certainly delivered – the central portion between the two garages features a vibrant black-and-yellow pole all set for any firefighter seeking a speedy exit.

Minifigures

Minifigures

Special mention must be made of the 5 minifigures included in this set because the details are just hilariously adorable!

As we know, firefighters must be prepared to respond to an emergency immediately at all times, and these LEGO firefighters are no different.

From left to right, we have a fireman in fire-themed PJs looking like he just jumped out of bed (with a grumpy, half-awake face to match), a firewoman who’s only just managed to get her suspenders on over her inner shirt, and then three more firefighters in varying stages of doing up their overcoats.

There is even a well-dressed dog to round out the crew.

“Look mummy, this fireman is upstairs making his coffee and hotdog!” “Time to go, he’s gonna slide down the pole!” After a very satisfying build, my son had a great time exploring and playing with all the fun features and quirky details that make up what we know and love about LEGO.

Pretty much every kid dreams of being a firefighter at some point, and LEGO City 60414 Fire Station with Fire Truck is sure to fan the flames of that passion and fuel those dreams. Plus, the vehicle lovers are certain to get a kick out of racing the sleek shiny fire engine around while yelling “EE-OO-EE-OO” (no prizes for guessing how I know…).

All in all, LEGO City 60414 Fire Station with Fire Truck is a solid set that provides for both an enjoyable build experience as well as tons of imaginative play.

Unexpectedly, it also set the stage for some interesting conversations with my son about fire safety (“mummy, how do you think this fire started?”) and what the life of a firefighter entails (“how come they need to have beds in the fire station?).

Fun AND educational – this set is lit!
