When we heard of the new set from LEGO Minecraft being a frog house, my son and I were intrigued! Frogs are an interesting mob in Minecraft and a source of froglights which are a light source and are a nice way of lighting up dark rooms! Players have also been building their own versions of frog houses for several years and now we have one from The LEGO Group!
LEGO Minecraft The Frog House 21256 Review
LEGO Minecraft The Frog House 21256 is based on the “Temperate” (Orange-brown) variant of the frog and it comes in 400 pieces with an age recommendation of 8+. The minifigures are also very interesting with a new Swamp Explorer, Zombie, Drowned Zombie (with a very cool trident), three frogs and a slime.
Plenty of cool and fun Minecraft pieces to be excited about!

As we started building the set, we were definitely excited about the many details, such as the Cyan Minecraft Bed, Crafting Table, Furnace, Chest, Food, a lovely boat, oars and little plants. There was even a lovely little bottle of honey that would be a nice snack for our adventurer here. Included were also the cutest little slime and the three adorable, different coloured frogs. Highlights of this set are definitely the minifigures this round!
The Swamp Explorer minifigure slashes his way forward with the quintessential Diamond Sword while the Drowned Zombie wields the Trident, one of the most powerful weapons in Minecraft. All these are definitely the coolest features of LEGO Minecraft The Frog House 21256.
Overall Impression of Lego Minecraft The Frog House 21256
The overall impression, however, was that it seemed a bit barebones, and some of the design choices such as for its limbs, mouth and tongue were not very elegant. We couldn’t help but compare it to some of the very complex frog houses we have seen in the Minecraft game.
It was of course unfair to make that comparison as you could build as big and complicated as you like within the game. At the end of the day, it felt as though The LEGO Group tried to scale it down so that it was a smaller, less expensive set. It did so more successfully with some of the other LEGO Minecraft sets such as the Wolf Stronghold but not so this time.
Great fun to play with and tons of adventures to have!
Nevertheless, the playable nature of Lego and Minecraft came through in heaps. LEGO Minecraft The Frog House 21256 had a removable roof to allow interaction with the items in the house, while the farm, lake and the boat lent themselves to roleplaying and pretend farming, harvesting and fishing. It definitely created lasting opportunities for play and adventure.
My son had loads of fun helping the Swamp Explorer catch frogs, defend the Frog House from a multi-pronged amphibious zombie invasion and chill out inside the Frog House itself.
All in all, LEGO Minecraft The Frog House 21256 is a nice addition to the LEGO Minecraft series. For fans of Minecraft and those who want to get their hands on some of those very special minifigures, it is an unmissable set!
