You see the photo on the cover and you know exactly what kind of fun you are going to have with it. This is LEGO Minecraft The Wolf Stronghold 21261.
It has 312 pieces altogether so a small but feature-filled set and it is recommended for ages 8+. Wolves are a huge part of Minecraft and taming them is one of the most fun things that Minecraft players love to do. This is an exciting Lego Minecraft set where we build a castle playset (a mob house in the context of Minecraft), minifigures consisting of the Wolf Tamer, 2 Wolves (one tamed version and one untamed) and 2 Skeletons to fight off!

It is a great way of enticing and getting your Minecraft-hooked child off one of the multiple consoles and screens they have Minecraft on and build a real-life physical set. YMMV as it will make them want to replicate what they have built in real-life in their Minecraft world as well!
Building time of LEGO MINECRAFT 21261 The Wolf Stronghold!
Here we go starting off the build of the Lego Minecraft The Wolf Stronghold set 21261 with pack 1! Wolf Tamer built and overseeing the construction of the rest of the set from his little perch on the IKEA BYGGLEK LEGO box.
The tamed version of the wolf (with cute eyes and green collar) was introduced to the dog, who wasn’t sure what to do about it.
Here we have the wolves begging for their treats (bones) hidden in the treasure chest, which Wolf Tamer would have used to tame them.
It was also exciting for my son to see unique LEGO versions of a crafting table, blast furnace, anvil and a smithing table. As you can see they are all tucked away nicely in the stronghold for Wolf Tamer to access whenever necessary.
Battles to be had and won
Halfway through building the set, he could not resist having an early face-off between the Wolfs and the Skeleton. It was a battle hard fought and despite being too young to know Princess Mononoke, my son definitely knew that the key to victory was to ride your wolf.
Even though the minifigures used common body/skeleton pieces, it is still impressive to see how with a few special head and equipment pieces, they are immediately recognisable as Minecraft characters. Obviously, as with Minecraft, you can apply your own mods to the LEGO Minecraft set as well!
End of Build but start of Fun!
And here we see the completed Wolf Stronghold in its full glory and both versions of nice wolf and angry wolf. Sure, it’s a small set but it’s definitely fun to build, with endless adventures to have, battles to reenact. We would have loved to have the option of the angry wolf version for the minifigure and also be able to have both wolves be “tamed” but those are just minor points that don’t detract on the fun to be had.
