Our initial impressions of Little Cook at Kinex was that it resembled a toy shop with an array of colourful play kitchens. However, stepping inside revealed a dream come true for young chefs. Here, at the Little Cook playhouse, children make use of real, child-safe cooking equipment to prepare actual food.
It is like playing masak masak but with real ingredients to enjoy the joy of cooking and the pay-off of being able to enjoy the food afterwards!
Cooking Up Fun in the Kitchen at Little Cook
The concept of Little Cook reminded us of Montessori principles. It provides kids with accessible tools that allow them to direct their own culinary adventures.

After being welcomed into Little Cook, the kids began their adventure by donning cute kid-sized aprons and mini chef hats.
The first step was to choose a recipe from a good selection of simple options that had been specifically tailored for young cooks.
We chose Tomato Pasta and Crispy Waffles as these two catered to both our savoury and sweet palettes. Other options on the Little Cook cooking menu included Cheesy Baked Rice, Soup Noodles, Hawaiian Pizza and others. All the ingredients are provided.
The dishes were prepared using child-sized cooking tools designed with safety features to prevent burns or cuts, and the adorable, mini-sized condiments added to the charm.
Despite feeling like a bit like giants in the small kitchen, it was clear that my children were thrilled to be the chefs-in-charge.
Tasting the Fruit of Our Labour: Enjoying the Meals at Little Cook
The cooking session at Little Cook lasted about 40 minutes. With guidance from the staff, I could prepare the food alongside with my kids as they prepared the ingredients and then cook and assemble it in their cosy little kitchen space.
Once the food was ready, the kids were delighted to take their meals to a seating area where they could enjoy the fruit of their labour.
Little Cook is designed for children aged 3 to 8 years old, but my 9-year-old had just as much fun, if not more, than her younger brother.
Little Cook operates on a flexible walk-in basis, so no pre-booking is necessary.
Each session costs $35 per child, and you can save money by purchasing a package deal.
There’s a special recipe planned for National Day period, so if you want to stay updated, be sure to follow Little Cook on Instagram.
