It’s a lazy, quiet Saturday morning at Sengkang Riverside Park.
Besides a group of young kids having an inline floorball lesson (which is way cool, by the way – inline skating combined with floorball), most of the people here are parents waiting for their kids to finish the lesson.
Let’s take a walk through the 21-hectare park’s trails and wetland, see what fruit trees or some animals we can spot, and kick back at the local cafe.

Water all Around
Sungei Punggol runs through Sengkang Riverside Park, which is a tranquil spot to spend with the family. If you look at the map, you’ll see that the park is segmented into three sections by the main road Anchorvale St and Sungei Punggol.
One of the key highlights here is the constructed wetland.
It’s nice that you can walk right up to the edge of the ponds and mangrove, with no barricades or railings to fence off the area.
But it also means you have to keep a close eye on excited, galloping little tykes. All too easy for them to start wading (which seems like a great idea but un-adult idea right now, in the sweltering heat).
And oh, fishing is not allowed here, just in case you were wondering.
In Touch with Nature
Another fun highlight would be to spot the fruit trees, planted all around the park. Follow the Fruit Tree Trail map and you’ll be alright!
We didn’t see any fruiting trees, but apparently there are edible fruits such as star fruit, chiku, and dragonfruit here.
We wonder if they’re readying this field for more planting.
We also spotted some pretty dragonflies and damselflies darting about the wetlands. Dragonflies like the Common Bluetail and Common Scarlet are often seen here.
Stay long enough and you can do some bird-watching too. The Purple Heron, Little tern and Collared Kingfisher are common sightings.
Squint a bit harder and you will spot the wetland’s resident turtles make their way casually across the pond.
Floating Island at Sengkang Riverside Park
Singapore’s largest man-made wetland, PUB’s Sengkang Floating Island, is also located within the park.
The park is dotted with sheltered pavilions like this one.
And the trail is a constant gentle incline, which will make it more of a workout. Lots of open spaces and spacious lawns here, too.
Mushroom Cafe, run by the Old Chang Kee group, provides simple local eats like mee siam, mee rebus and nasi lemak.
There is the odd curry puff or sardine puff, as well as a more western selection like scrambled eggs and hot dogs.
It’s the only cafe here – and you’ll appreciate the refreshments at this quiet place.
