It has 1080p native resolution, 5,000 lumens & inbuilt dual speakers.
With the brightness of 5,000 lumens, the projector projects images vividly and is suited to viewing movies without images looking washed out. It performs best in a darkened room on a white wall. Do also take note that it is optimised to be a home cinema model and not for business applications such as projecting presentations.
With the inbuilt speakers, there is no need to hook up the projector to a separate sound system. The speakers are dual speakers that are meant to provide better bass response. Personally, we found the sound to be adequate for casual watching. The projector also has a headphone port.
What is impressive is that the LUMOS RAY V2 is adaptable enough to project images anywhere between 50 inches all the way to 200 inches or all the way to more than 5 metres.
What’s more, the LUMOS RAY V2 is designed with Singapore HDB homes in mind. The minimum distance that is required between the screen and the projector to project a 50 inch screen is only 1.5 metres. This makes it suitable for use within a small room such as a bedroom or study.
Another feature of the LUMOS RAY V2 is that the SMART version, which comes with Netflix and YouTube, is officially certified.
Having the Netflix and YouTube apps shipped and ready to go in the LUMOS RAY V2 SMART projector is something that we have always appreciated about LUMOS projectors. It means that you can start enjoying the home experience in just a couple of minutes with very little fuss.
The certification means that you can be even more assured that experience using the apps will be smooth without common issues like log in errors, inability to update, glitches, remote control incompatibility and a low resolution cap.
The projector also has ports for HDMI, USB, AV and a headphone. A short HDMI cable and a RCA to AV adaptor are also provided.
The LUMOS RAY V2 has also been designed so that it can be screw mounted on top of a RIZE PRO stand, also available from LUMOS.
The LUMOS RAY V2 projector can also be attached to the RIZE PRO adjustable stand via a ball-joint swivel head.
Once attached to the stand, the projector can be tilted up and down, or adjusted to one side if necessary. This comes in useful if you need to quickly adjust the image by physically moving the projector.
Some Final Thoughts
The LUMOS RAY V2 does pack a lot of features into a small package and it is priced at $398, which is lower than similar top-tier certified projectors that can cost upwards of $1,000.
However, the trade off is in the body construction of the projector. The aluminium used for the projector body feels quite thin and we wonder if it would survive being dropped on the floor.
On the positive side, the projector does comes with a trendy-looking padded case where it can be stowed away safely after use.
Also, a little tip. Be sure to fully insert the power cable into the socket at the back of the projector. We didn’t and it took a while for us to realise that we had not fully plugged it in.
