MAMMA MIA! has danced its way back to Singapore, performing at Marina Bay Sands’ Sands Theatre for a limited season from 19 October to 5 November 2023.
This is the third time that the hit musical, based on the songs of ABBA, has been to Singapore. It has charmed audiences in 2014 and 2018 and at the Gala Premiere on 19 October, the audience was excited to welcome it back once again.
MAMMA MIA!: Here We Go Again!
MAMMA MIA! tells the story of a single mother Donna Sheridan and her 20-year-old daughter Sophie who is about to get married.

Yearning to know who her real father is, Sophie invites three men, all possibly her biological father, to the Greek island where she lives. This sets off a crazy chain of events as Donna gets a rude shock when her three ex-lovers appear at her doorstep on the eve of her daughter’s wedding.
However, the narrative is secondary to the real experience of MAMMA MIA – a chance to bask in the genius of 22 of ABBA’s greatest hits.
Familiar songs like Honey, Honey, Take A Chance On Me and Does Your Mother Know inform the musical’s plot.
The Dancing Queen
MAMMA MIA! feels like a frat party bus and as part of the musical’s energetic dance numbers, you can expect some raunchy moves, complete with pelvic thrusts thrown in for good measure, and the occasional sexual innuendo along for the ride.
There were plenty of comedic points too. These had the whole theatre laughing away before the first half ended on a high with Voulez-Vous.
The second half of the musical featured some of ABBA’s slower numbers. These included a surprisingly poignant Slipping Through My Fingers.
By the time the finale arrived, the entire theatre was up on their feet and jiving along to ABBA’s hits. Everyone was clearly having the time of their lives and digging the MAMMA MIA! experience.
MAMMA MIA! delivered a summery good time and left us saying, “Thank You for the Music” and with a earworm in our brain as we left the theatre.
