McDonald’s Singapore is at it again – bringing a local twist to its menu. This time around, the fast-food giant is offering the Ha Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Burger, Ha Ha Cheong Gai Drumlets, Breakfast Curry Burger and Kueh Salat Cake.

Har Cheong Gai or prawn paste chicken is a quintessentially Singaporean dish. Consisting of chicken pieces coated in fermented shrimp paste and deep fried, Ha Cheong Gai, or Har Cheong Gai, is a staple of every local coffee shop’s zichar menu.

McDonald’s Ha Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Burger and Ha Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Drumlets taps on to this local flavour. These two items are being introduced in conjunction with Singapore Tourism Board’s Singapore Food Festival 2018 and Singapore’s National Day in August.

McDonald’s Ha Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Burger, McDonald's SingaporeThe Ha Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Burger features a whole chicken thigh marinated in prawn paste, coated with crispy bread crumbs and served on a bed of lettuce. The chicken is accompanied by slices of cucumber and topped off with prawn-paste mayonnaise.

Each Ha Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Burger costs $6.05 ala carte and is available for a limited time only.

McDonald’s has also unveiled the Ha Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Drumlets. These consist of McDonald’s chicken drumlets coated in shrimp paste. A set of two pieces of drumlets costs $2.20.

We gave the burger and drumlets a try.

Har Har Cheong Gai BurgerWhen we bit in, the battered and fried chicken thigh had a nice crisp bite and a wonderful har cheong gai flavour. This balanced off nicely with the sesame seed bun and greens.

Both the Ha Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Burger and Ha Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Drumlets are available after breakfast hours.

Breakfast Curry Burger

McDonald's Breakfast Curry BurgerFor a limited time only, McDonald’s has also introduced a Breakfast Curry Burger. This breakfast item combines a McChicken patty with McDonald’s curry sauce with melted cheese and a sunny side-up egg.

The price for a Breakfast Curry Burger is $4.20 ala carte or $5.50 for a meal. It is available during breakfast hours.

Kueh Salat Cake

Kueh Salat CakeFor those with a sweet tooth for local desserts will be glad to know that McDonald’s is also be serving its popular Kueh Salat Cake at its McCafes.

The Ha Ha Cheong Gai Burger and Ha Ha Cheong Gai Drumlets are the latest of McDonald’s Singapore’s locally-inspired menu items. These items follow last year’s Nasi Lemak Burger and, more recently, the D24 Durian McFlurry.
