Since Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre opened in Singapore last year, it has been a popular hotel for business travellers and families looking for a staycation in a convenient location that is just a stone’s throw away from local cultural and heritage sites, such as the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Sri Mariamman Temple.

The accommodation is mainly available in three room types, namely the Classic, Deluxe and Privilege rooms.

The Classic room type is popular with travellers on a short-term stay.

The other room types are more ideal for long-term stays. At the time of our visit, most of the rooms were for a maximum capacity of two persons with a small number of rooms that allowed slightly more capacity.

Dining at Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre

Mercure review 06

The hotel offers all-day dining options, with breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets available at Chara Brasserie that is located at level 2 of the hotel.

The dinner buffet serves four rotating menus inspired by Mediterranean and Asia flavours, so guests could discover delightful surprises, even on repeated visits.

Breakfast at Chara Brasserie presents a refreshing start to the morning, as natural light spills in through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors that line the restaurant and a spectrum of local and international delights in the buffet selection.

Our Experience at Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre

Mercure review 05

We were greeted warmly at the check-in counter. We stayed in a Deluxe room with balcony, that had a queen-sized double bed and a single bed for our group of three.

We had a beautiful view of the cityscape from our balcony that looked out to the Chinatown stretch.

Storage space was competitive in the room for three persons, but we navigated the tabletop spaces and managed to settle the belongings for our short stay.

The first challenge for some of the first-time guests was navigating the elevator system, as seen on the confused faces at the lift lobby, surprised by the missing floor level input keypad in the elevator. The hotel deployed the use of a smart elevator system that was meant to allow greater convenience and enhance efficiency when travelling between floors.

We were lucky to have encountered a helpful staff who explained that guests were required to first input the intended lift landing level at the lift lobby, to direct them to the corresponding elevator that would bring them to the intended floor.

Another challenge encountered was that directions to facilities were not immediately visible to guests which, again, was solved thanks to the help of the friendly staff on site.

The beds were comfortable, and I personally enjoyed the quiet moments on the balcony in the evening.
