Nanyang Lake is located at the northern end of Yunnan Garden at Nanyang Technological University. It is connected to the rest of Yunnan Garden by a boardwalk and is worth a visit in itself.
What to see at Nanyang Lake
The beautifully landscaped Nanyang Lake was expanded from its previous size. It has a series of pathways which line its perimeter.

Across the centre of Nanyang Lake runs a boardwalk where you can pause to enjoy the view of the water.
The lake is split into two levels. The northern end of the lake is elevated higher than the southern end and contains a sedimentation basin and wetland areas.
Sedimentation Basin & Wetlands
This northern section of Nanyang Lake plays an important role in collecting and cleaning ground run off water.
Rainwater first flows to the sedimentation basin at the top of the upper level. The sedimentation basin slows down the water and allows coarse and medium-sized particles to settle down by gravity.
From the sedimentation basin, the water then flows to the wetland. These shallow waterbodies are planted with special plant species which help to remove pollutants and have roots which help to filter out finer sediments.
The water then moves on to series of gravel traps which help to further filter the water.
Thematic Gardens
The greenery around Nanyang Lake is divided into multiple thematic gardens.
These include a Lily Garden, Butterfly Garden and Pitcher Plant Garden.
The Pitcher Plant Garden, at the wetlands, has a platform where you can admire the lake’s beautiful landscaping.
Nanyang Lake Playground
At the northern section of the lake, just in front of the residences at Tan Lake Sye Walk, is also where you will find the Nanyang Lake Playground.
The unique netted playground has two layers, just like the adjacent lake. The bottom layer consists of a wavy structure with cargo nets strung out across it to create an undulating playscape for kids.
The top layer of the Nanyang Lake Playground is “placid” – as if a calm water surface which masks the turbulence underneath.
Two metallic tube slides interlace and connect the top layer to the ground.
It is just another reason to pay a visit to Nanyang Lake and enjoy the green space, along with the rest of Yunnan Garden.
