Child Fishing Experience
We opted for the Child Fishing Experience ($38), which includes a DIY fish tank which kids can use to bring home the fish they have caught. Each session lasts 60 minutes, and each participating child can be accompanied by up to two adults.
The session began with a safety briefing and a demonstration by a cheerful and friendly staff member who showed us how to catch the fish. We were given a bucket and fishing net, and had around 45 minutes to fish from a pond populated by cute little guppies.
Initially, my 5 year old got extremely frustrated when his repeated attempts at netting some fish yielded no results. However, after some encouragement and pointers on the right technique, his perseverance paid off and he managed to catch quite a number of fish.
Stools are provided so you can relax and fish in comfort, although I think we spent majority of the time squatting right at the edge of the pond – for the authentic longkang fishing experience!
The final 15 minutes of the session was spent in the DIY room decorating and populating the mini lego fish tank.
A variety of coloured sand, rocks and figurines are available for selection, allowing kids to customise their tanks to their own personal preference. After that, we were able to select four to six of the fish we had caught to bring home with us.
The DIY room is also used for the other activities on offer such as terrarium workshops and craft sessions. We caught a glimpse of the myriad customisable equipment for these activities, and can’t wait to be back again to try them out!
Do note that while the minimum age for the fishing experience is 18 months old, I would not recommend this activity for younger kids, as there is a very real risk of falling into the pond (especially when they get excited!).
For those who fancy a bite before/after their session, there is a safari-themed cafe and bistro on the premises, Ten+, serving a mix of Western and Eastern cuisines.
Highlights from the menu include Crispy Pork Knuckle and Chilli Crab Linguine, as well as a variety of snacks and light bites. There is also a kids menu which includes items like Fusilli Carbonara and Berries Pancakes.
Review of Nature Kindred
We really enjoyed the serene setting at Nature Kindred, providing the perfect environment for relaxing and exploration.
For kids who are spending far too much time indoors and glued to screens, Nature Kindred offers a valuable chance to take a step away from technology and towards nature and all the wonderful learning opportunities it has to offer.
The Child Fishing Experience provided precious lessons in patience and perseverance – netting the slippery fish is seriously harder than it looks, and a lot of time is spent just sitting as still as possible and waiting for the fish to approach the net. But once you get the hang of it, the waiting pays off in the form of a very tangible bucket full of fish.
As a parent, the far greater reward for me is seeing the triumphant smile on my son’s face with each fish caught, and knowing he has gained valuable life lessons from this experience.
Another thing we like about Nature Kindred is that it is fully sheltered – the fishing pond is sheltered and well-ventilated, while the other activities are conducted in an air-conditioned DIY room. Perfect even for rainy days!
Getting to Nature Kindred Farm
Nature Kindred is best accessed by car, as its location is pretty out of the way.
That said, we really enjoyed the drive as we approached, as it felt like we weren’t even in Singapore anymore, what with the vast plots of farmland around us and the unblocked views of the surrounding area.
Limited free parking is available on site; otherwise guests may also park at the roadside outside the premises if the car park is full.
Address: 65 Sungei Tengah Road, Singapore 699000
Opening hours: 10.30 am to 6.30 pm, weekends and public holidays only
