Two small mobile libraries have been joined the National Library Board’s existing big mobile library bus “Molly”.
These new buses, dubbed “mini Mollys”, will serve mostly kindergartens and childcare centres in HDB estates that cannot otherwised be reached by the big mobile library bus.
Sponsored by the Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple, each bus carries more than 1,500 books and is equipped with an internal book-drop and a borrowing station. At 7.5 metres long, each mini-Molly can receive up to 12 young readers on board and will be staffed by librarians who will organise activities such as storytelling, arts and craft and sing-a-long sessions to provide children an immersive reading experience.
The mini Mollys were launched at My First Skool childcare centre at Haig Road by Ms Sim Ann, Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information and Ministry of Education on 8 May 2014.
