Standing discretely along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 is Nim Meadow Park and its playground. This small park mainly serves the residents at the nearby estate while most people gravitate to the larger Luxus Hill Park and Ang Mo Kio Linear Park that is down the street. However, this little park an interesting story to tell, plus the Nim Meadow Park playground is a fun little one too.

When we think about parks in Singapore, we mostly think of them being setup and built by the National Parks Board. However, Nim Meadow Park was not setup by National Parks Board. Instead, it was established by a company – Bukit Sembawang Estates Ltd.

Nowadays, Bukit Sembawang Estates Ltd is best known as a private property developer. However, the company has its roots as a rubber company in 1911.

In the early 1900s, the area around where Nim Meadow Park is today were once dotted with rubber plantations. The latex from the rubber trees were once used to make rubber products and was one of Singapore’s early industries.

Bukit Sembawang Estates Ltd was established in 1967 when the rubber company diversified. Nim Meadow Park was built by the property developer.

Tractor Tire at Nim Meadow Park

Even though the park is now managed by NParks, there is a still a large tractor rubber tire at the shelter along with the outlines of rubber trees as a reminder of the role that rubber played in Singapore.

Nim Meadow Park Playground

Venturing further into the park, you will come across the Nim Meadow Park playground. This playground was installed by CT-Art Creation in May 2019.

The brightly-coloured playground features a trio of low towers that are interconnected by  rope bridges that reminds of us the one that Indiana Jones had to cross in the Temple of Doom.

It allows kids to be get from one platform to another.

Bright red slides lead out from two of the towers.

Rustic Ladders

We love the rustic-looking ladders that lead up to the tower pods.

Swings

There also a pair of swings at the Nim Meadow Park playground.

Mounds at Nim Meadow Park

Several mounds add a bit of variety for kids who play at the playground.

Trampolines

Another tribute to the role of rubber is perhaps the pair of rubber trampolines that can be found at the playground.

Tires

There are also a row of tires at another section of the park.
