Newly opened in September 2024, OM Cafe is a stone’s throw away from the West Coast Park Therapeutic Garden and a short stroll from the West Coast Park Car Park 2. As you approach the City Sprouts farm area, along the West Coast Ferry Road, you will find a latticework tunnel, cover in shrubs, that ushers you towards the cafe’s entrance.

There are two dining areas, interconnected by a short passageway, at OM Cafe. We made our way to the large dining area at the rear. The contemporary decor, which had hints of nature, gave off a relaxed and laid back ambiance with the sound of jazz playing in the background.

With large floor to ceiling windows, plenty of light streamed into the air-conditioned dining area. The high ceiling with the sloped roof reminded us of being in Australia. We appreciated how the space felt merged with greenery of West Coast Park on one side, while the other looked out into various farm plots.

The “OM” in OM Cafe stands for “Ordinary Mood” but the ambiance certain put us in a good one.

What’s on the Menu at OM Cafe

What's on the Menu at OM Cafe

OM Cafe serves a variety of western dishes. These include light bites, salads, pastas, burgers and mains.

On the lighter side are salads like Caesar Salad ($12.90) and the OM Salad ($16.90).

Appetisers include Prawn Paste Chicke Wings ($16.90), OM Nachos ($11.90), Calamari Rings ($12.90) and more. These would go well with the beer and other alcoholic beverages that OM Cafe serves.

As with most cafes, OM Cafe has a brunch menu. This includes the OM Breakfast Waffle that comes dressed with eggs, bacon and baked beans. You can get an English Breakfast at $18.90. There is also a range of sausage options and sandwiches. Chicken Waffle ($12.90) is also on the menu, as is Ice Cream Waffle ($12.90) if you feel like treating your sweet tooth for brunch.

Other mains include pastas like Mac & Cheese ($18.90) and Carbonara ($18.90).Meat cuts available included Char-Grilled Chicken ($18.90), Chicken Cheesey Sausage ($15.90), Fish & Chips (18.90) and Smoked BBQ Porkloin Ribs ($26.90). There are a variety of burgers on the OM Cafe menu too, as well as pizzas and satay platters. We imagine the latter two will go well with a ice-cold glass of beer in the evening.

OM Cafe also has kids meals available. Options include Kids Double Chicken with both nuggets and tenders ($10.90), Kids Mac & Cheese ($10.90) and Kids Fish & Chips (10.90).

In the end, we settled on a bowl of Cream of Mushroom ($8.90) for a start. This came with a side of garlic bread.

For the mains, we ordered the Lamb Rack ($31.90) and the OM Burger ($18.90).

Lamb Rack

The Lamb Rack had three ribs of meat and came with a dish of mint sauce, mashed potatoes and vegetables. Normally, we like our lamb slightly pink. However, the Lamb Rack at OM Cafe was quite well cooked through. Nonetheless, the lamb was still juicy and soft, and we found it both satisfying and delicious.

OM Burger

The OM Burger arrived with sides of salad and chips on the plate. The burger was stacked pretty tall with a substantial patty that looked like it could almost pass for a meatball. Surprisingly, even though the patty was so large, it was cooked quite well through. We were also a bit apprehensive whether it would be dry but, instead, the burger patty was well seasoned and juicy.

The OM Burger comes dressed with fried onions and mushrooms under a layer of melted cheese. The bun was soft and overall the burger didn’t taste overly greasy to us. Perhaps it is also because it was complemented with the fresh salad on the side.

Health Lab Tea Pots

Health Lab Tea Pots

OM Cafe also serves Health Lab Tea Pots. These are tea infusions that are supposed to be good for certain purposes. Amongst the options are Kumquat Passionfruit Tea, Orange-infused Pineapple Tea and Roselle Hawthorn Tea. Each pot is $7.90 and enough for two. It comes with a set of small glasses.

We ordered the Lemon Infused Dragonfruit tea which is supposed to be good for detoxing the digestive system.

The tea arrived in an elegant glass tea pot that showed off the bright red colour of the tea. It was placed on top of a burner to keep it warm. It had a sweet but subtle flavour with a hint of sourness thanks to the addition of lime into the infusion.

It was a refreshing beverage that contrasted nicely with the savouriness of the mains that we had ordered.

We were surprised when the waiter later came by and took away the teapot to top it up. We could have sat there all day enjoying the ambiance and sipping tea but eventually we had to leave.

Overall Thoughts about OM Cafe

Overall Thoughts about OM Cafe

OM Cafe is a nice new dining options at West Coast Park and provides a nice alternative to the frantic pace of the fast food experience over at West Coast Park Area 3 where the adventure playground is located.

Instead, it feels like a hidden laid back spot where you can unwind. Tucked away together with the City Sprouts farm, the restaurant goes well with the feel of the slower-paced West Coast Park Therapeutic Garden close by.

While at OM Cafe at West Coast Park, you can also take a wander around the City Sprouts farm area and look into the various enclosures to see what the farmers are up to. There is a lawn area within City Sprouts, just in front of OM Cafe.

Do take note that OM Cafe is not halal-certified.

For those with pets, there is a small outdoor seating area. However, OM Cafe is not allowed to serve food outdoors. If you wish to, you can order takeaway and enjoy the food at the outdoor seating area.
