Enjoy a landscape filled with over 15,000 orchids at Orchid Extravaganza 2019, now on at Gardens by the Bay’s Flower Dome.
This year, Orchid Extravaganza features popular Singapore icons, a celebration of local pop culture. The floral display was created in collaboration with popular Singaporean singer-songwriter Dick Lee and designer Yang Derong.
More than 80 varieties of orchids have been used to create the Flower Field display at Gardens by the Bay.

Look closer and you will find familiar signs and notices that leave no doubt that it is a Singapore Housing Block.
There is also the not-too-subtle “200 Tanjong Pagar Road” Bicentennial nod.
The centrepiece at Orchid Extravaganza 2019 is the iconic Toa Payoh Dragon Playground. Standing 4 metres tall, the Dragon playground features a tunnel of orchids that you can walk through.
The entire display is 20 metres long.
Standing tall at the Flower Field are three replicas of more recent icons of Singapore, Gardens by the Bay’s very own Supertrees. These replicas are between 4 metres and 6 metres in height.
Local Culture in Orchids
In a tip of the hat to Singapore’s food culture, there is a giant bowl of ice kachang, complete with a spoon stuck into it. Its vibrant mix of colours are representative of Singapore’s multiracial society.
A photo spot with a pair of Sumatran orang utans pay tribute to Ah Meng, Singapore’s iconic animal ambassador who died in 2008.
Walking around Orchid Extravaganza, you can also view different cultural elements representing Singapore’s communities.
These include a kampung hut and oversized chaptehs, the popular childhood game.
Amongst the flowers on display are heritage orchids like the Aranda (syn. Mokara) Singa Gold and Aranthera Anne Black.
The star orchid is Singapore’s national flower, the orchid hybrid Papilionanthe (Vanda) Miss Joaquim.
