At one end there is a brown bear playground structure. It has a pair of cute eyes along with a cute nose. Kids can climb inside where rope obstacles await. The daring ones can even try to climb on top of the bear.
The bear’s companion is a rhino play structure. This is also a netted playground with cargo nets that kids can use to climb on top.
The rhino is recognisable its small single horn at the top.
Besides these two animal-themed play structures, there is also a bright orange play tower at this Punggol Point Wood playground. Topped off with green leaves, the orange play tower presents even more climbing opportunities for kids. And with the long straight slide from the tower’s platform, kids can have some fun swooshing down.
Another play feature here is a trampoline where kids can jump on for a hoppy good time.
The Hippo Playground at Punggol Point Woods
Even more wild animal-themed fun awaits a few steps away. A purple hippo playground invites younger kids to have some fun.
This is one of the most innovatively-designed playgrounds that we have come across. It almost relies on the trick-of-the-eye or trompe-l’œil to achieve its theming.
If you look at the playground casually, you will think it is just a mound with a collection of frames and nets. However, view it from the right angle and the magic of the playground reveals itself.
The various elements of the playground come together to form the image of a purple hippo emerging from a pool of water.
At the very front is the hippo’s huge mouth with little mounds forming its teeth. The netting on the frame acts as the top of its mouth.
The hippo’s eyes and ears stick out from the top of the mound. It is quite a clever design.
On the sides of the hippo, there are climbing handholds to help young children get up to the hippo’s back. A pair of slides at the rear of the hippo is a fun way to get off it.
All around the purple hippo play structure, there are a menagerie of animal play equipment. These range from a gorilla to a pair of zebras disguising as a see saw.
