If you are looking for Hong Kong-style food in Singapore, you may want to check out So Good Char Chan Tang and Bakery. The Hong Kong-style cafe has multiple locations around the island and serves straight forward, no nonsense Hong Kong food to satisfy your cravings.
So Good has both cafe, or cha chaan tengs, and bakery outlets. At the cafes, you will find some familiar Hong Kong specialties, including roast meats and dim sum. These include chef recommendations such as curry beef brisket rice, baked tomato pork chop rice, baked cheese spaghetti bolognese and fried rice with pork chop and eggs.
We recently visited the So Good Char Chan Tang outlet at TripleOne Somerset to give the food a try.

On arrival at So Good Char Chan Tang cafe, we had to place our orders via an automated machine. Scrolling through the various dishes available at the machine, we settled on the chef recommendation Baked Tomato Pork Chop Rice ($9.90), as well as Crispy Bun with Condensed Milk ($2.80).
Those who want something lighter can also choose from sandwiches such as French Toast ($3.60) and Scrambled Egg Thick Toast ($3.60). The outlet starts serving sandwiches and toasts from 8 am in the morning, making these a nice option for breakfast.
After placing our order, we made our way to a table and had a seat.
There is fairly limited seating in the restaurant. The decor within the So Good Char Chan Tang is modern and contemporary, rather than being deliberately themed to look like an old style Hong Kong establishment. This made us feel that the focus would be on the food rather than on the theming.
When the Baked Tomato Pork Chop Rice arrived, we were not disappointed. It was a bone-in piece of pork chop that has a nice flavouring to it. The rice wasn’t overly seasoned and it went well with the pork chop along with a little bit of the tomato puree on top.
We found the Crispy Bun with Condensed Milk to be a little too crusty. This made it hard to bite into and we had to give it a good chew. Perhaps next time we will try the Polo Bun with Butter ($2.80) instead.
Overall, we liked So Good Char Chan Tang and would come back again to try the other dishes on the menu such as their Hong Kong Dim Sum and noodles like the Shrimp Wanton Noodles ($7.80).
Before leaving, we paid a visit to the So Good Bakery next door.
This is where you can pick up some buns or pastries like egg tarts for a snack.
