Many of us grew up with Swensen’s. As one of the oldest household brands in Singapore with more than 20 outlets islandwide, Swensen’s still continues to delight us with innovative and creative dishes with its SG59 celebratory launch of Singapore’s favourite wok-fried cereal dishes – with a delicious local twist!

Nostalgic Old-World Charm with a Twist on Cereal & Classics

Nestled in a cosy corner of Plaza Singapura at Level 3, Swensen’s still exudes a familiar nostalgic old-world charm with its trademark Tiffany lamps and its red-engine cushioned sofa seats. Upon arrival, we were ushered to the family seating area with beautiful natural lighting, facing out to the mall’s foyer greens.

We were presented with a Cereal-ously Shiok menu that offered a deliciously curated variety of Swensen’s signature main dishes with a wok-fried cereal twist such as Cereal King Prawn Aglio Olio, Cereal Prawn Baked Rice, and yummy sharing finger food such as Cereal Mayo Fries, Cereal Ice-cream Mochi Waffle. Prices for the main dishes were affordable from $15.90++ onwards.

The Cereal King Prawn Aglio Olio ($16.90++) kicked off our tastebuds to a surprising start as the first dish served. Not only was it umami but there was also delightful complexity with each mouthful of spaghetti, accompanied by just the right tinge of sweetness, spiciness and texture with the fried cereal, curry leaves and chilli padi tossed in. To top it off, we enjoyed crunching down the jumbo king sized prawns, generously crusted in crunchy cereal flakes.

This is a must-try, and also surprisingly kids-friendly (for those that can take some spice!), as our Little Pea wolfed down this al dente chew and asked for more.

The next dish that greeted us was the Cereal Prawn Baked Rice ($15.90++) which came with a generous topping of succulent prawns coated with cereal crumbs. The prawns were delightfully fresh, and complimented the yummy gooey-melted cheese savoury baked rice, infused with shrimp béchamel sauce. Again, a simple yet hearty soulful dish that we enjoyed.

We were then served sharing platters of Cereal Chic Pizza ($17.90++) and Cereal Mayo Fries ($10.90++). The crispy-cereal coated “karaage” chicken bites added a new “3D” dimension of savoury goodness to the pizza.

In addition, the mayo fries were irresistibly addictive with tinges of sweet buttery cereal crumbs. Little Pea wanted more.

Next up was dessert and we dug into our creamy cereal ice-cream accompanied with a chewy soft mochi waffle base. This smoothed our palette, and Little Pea couldn’t resist chowing down the old-school Swensen’s wafer as the ending finale to our Cereal-ously shiok gastronomy journey.

Celebrate Singapore’s 59th at Swensen’s with its cerealously shiok menu!

Keeping the Swensen’s Tradition, but still Keeping up with Times

All of us on one occasion or another have tasted Swensen’s signature ice-cream cake, and we were pleasantly pleased to see that they have Disney (Inside Out 2), Marvel (Spidey and Friends) and Nickelodeon themed ice-cakes that will definitely delight our little ones.

There is even a baby shark themed kids menu ($10.90++) that Little Pea was so intrigued by.

Seasonal promotions are also running concurrently such as their Premium Mao Shang Wang Durian Ice Cream Cake (with sea salt gula melaka), Senior 1-1 specials and affordable Student meals from $8.80++.

As kids that grew up with Swensen’s, we applaud their efforts to continue to innovate their dishes and be relevant with times, across all generations. We will definitely drop by for more family meals or for just a cone or two!
