Tucked away outdoors at Level 3 is the Tiong Bahru Plaza playground, where a pair of sparrow play structures, decorated with mosaic tiles, give off old school vibes while providing kids with a spot to have some fun while at the mall.
The Tiong Bahru Plaza playground is set in a decently sized rooftop space just behind Sushi Tei.

The sparrow play structures exude old school vibes because they are covered in mosaic – similar to the form of cladding found on the traditional dragon playgrounds and the sampan playground in Pasir Ris.
This type of design seems quite appropriate since Tiong Bahru itself is one of the oldest housing estates in Singapore.
While they may look vintage, the two sparrow structures at Tiong Bahru Plaza playground are actually designed with the present day in mind, offering some fun ways to play between the two of them.
One of the sparrows is for sliding – a broad slide comes down from the back of the play sparrow, providing a bit of fun for kids. This structure is known as Sparrow One Sliding Bird.
The other sparrow is designed to encourage kids to climb and is dubbed Sparrow Two Climbing Bird. There are different layers of flaps strung out between its two wings that kids can climb up while a red pole next to the sparrow’s wing provides even more climbing opportunities.
The two birds are facing opposite directions. Strung between them is a swing where kids can bundle in and sway back and forth. This is a Bird Nest Swing and little ones can pile inside it for some fun.
Other Play Equipment at the Tiong Bahru Plaza Playground
In addition to the sparrow play structures at the Tiong Bahru Plaza playground, the are also other play equipment that kids can enjoy.
Kids who are bursting with energy can jump about on the pentagon-shaped trampoline.
There is also a merry-go-round that is embedded into the ground along with a three-way see saw. Younger ones can play with a music panel too!
What we also appreciated about the Tiong Bahru Plaza playground is that there is a large tarp that is stretched out over sparrows. Similar to the playground at Jurong’s IMM, the tarp provides some shade to kids and parents who may be playing there.
There is also a mural wall at the entrance to the playground that raises awareness about the Singapore Children’s Society.
