1. Getting To The Mud Experience

If you arrive by car, the fastest way to access the Sungei Buloh mudflats is from the Neo Tiew car park at the main Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve.

2. Watch Over the Kids

Children under 13 need to be supervised. NParks advises that young children be accompanied by an adult at all times.

3. Visit During Low Tide

Boardwalk at Sungei Buloh Mud ExperienceThe boardwalk at the mudflats is built just above the mud and the area is subject to incoming and outgoing tides. This means that when it is high tide, the boardwalk can be flooded with seawater. If it is flooded, don’t enter the Sungei Buloh Mud Experience.

4. It Can Get Slippery

As the boardwalk gets regularly covered in water, sections of it can be covered in algae and slippery. Therefore, be cautious when entering the boardwalk. Make use of the rope railing to avoid slipping, or worse, falling into the mud!

5. There are Two Entryways to the Sungei Buloh Mud Experience

Rope Bridge at Sungei Buloh MudflatsIf you have arrived at the Mud Experience from the high platform, the way to get down to the boardwalk is via a V-profile rope bridge. If you (or young ones) would rather not take the bridge, there is another entryway to the boardwalk below at the other end, via the Dragonfly Pond.

6. Stay Out of the Mud

Mudflats, Sungei Buloh Mud ExperienceDo not enter the mud itself. There is no need to experience it THAT close. Not only could you get stuck in the mud, but remember, it is an ecosystem full of small animals; you may unintentionally end up harming them.

7. Swamp Creatures Look Out For

Some animal species that can be found at the Sungei Buloh Mud Experience include the Bristleworm, Mud Lobster, Fiddler Crab, Mud Crab, Mudskippers, Periwinkle Snail and Mangrove Horseshoe Crab. If you want to find out more about them, head to the platform where there are signboards that provide more information about them.

8. “What’s In My Mud?” Tour

If you are interested in learning more about the creatures found in the mudflats, NParks regularly conducts guided walks called “What’s in my mud?”. To enquire on the next available session, contact Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve at 67941401 or email nparks_sbwr@nparks.gov.sg
