TungLok Teahouse gave us Hong Kong vibes as we stepped into the restaurant at Square 2 in Novena for a meal. The restaurant is known for its dim sum and it even has an “All You Can Eat” dim sum buffet at dinner time and a high tea buffet with dim sum and more on weekends and public holidays.

However, we were there to try the dim sum a la carte and settled down after being shown to our table.

The trend at many of these casual restaurants nowadays is to order through a QR code. TungLok Teahouse is no exception.

What is interesting though is that after the food has been ordered, it – well the dim sum at least – arrives via a track that runs alongside the table. It is quick way to get the food from the kitchen to the table in double time.

We placed our order for dim sum staples Steamed Pork Dumplings or Siew Mai ($7.90 for four pieces), Steamed Shrimp Dumplings “Har Goa” ($7.90 for four pieces) and Steamed BBQ Pork Buns ($5.90 for three pieces).

The dim sum arrived quickly after we had ordered it – thanks to the express food delivery track.

Steamed Pork Dumplings or Siew Mai

We were pleasantly surprised by the Siew Mai. They had a decent filling of meat and were satisfyingly good. We would give it a 4/5.

Har Goa

Next, we tried the Har Goa. The prawns were fresh but skin was not as delicate as we would liked it to be. We give it 3/5.

Steamed BBQ Pork Bun

The Steamed BBQ Pork Bun comes in a basket of three. We were slightly surprised at the size of the buns.

Each bun looked rather small and while we can appreciate that it is cheaper than the preceding two dim sum dishes, we couldn’t help but wonder if they were the victim of shrinkflation.

Thankfully, they tasted ok with sweet morsels of pork inside the bun.

Other Dim Sum Dishes at TungLok Teahouse

TungLok Teahouse has a number of other dim sum choices.

We tried the Steamed Beancurd Skin Roll ($6.90 for three pieces) and the Four Treasures Beancurd Skill Roll ($7.80).

The Steamed Beancurd Skin Roll was nicely done with juicy pieces of meat inside and luscious sauce that was not overly salty.

Four Treasures Beancurd Skill Roll

What was interesting was the Four Treasures Beancurd Skill Roll. It was not-your-usual dim sum dish and offered an interesting take on the usual beancurd skin roll.

Unwrapping the beancurd roll, we uncovered the four treasures of chicken, ham, shitake mushroom and fish maw inside. We enjoyed it.

Teahouse Signature Cheong Fun

Another dim sum dish at TungLok Treasure that we enjoyed was the Teahouse Signature Cheong Fun ($12.90 for six pieces).

It features a light and crispy you tiao with prawn inside, wrapped up in a delicate rice roll. Yums!

Other Dishes at TungLok Teahouse

Besides dim sum, TungLok Teahouse at Square 2 also serves other dishes like roast meats and more. Hinghwa delicacies like Braised Rice Vermicelli with Seafood ($26.80 and Hinghwa Pan-friend Seafood Bao ($11.80) are also available on the menu.

Perhaps next time, we may give those dishes a try or even return for the popular All you Can Eat A La carte Dinner Buffet or the All You Can Eat High Tea Buffet.
